Please ring 07 863 2112 for an appointment. We provide booked appointments with your preferred GP, and also a walk-in clinic for urgent medical conditions or accidents every morning. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time. Emergencies will always be given priority and our reception staff will attempt to contact you if there is any unforeseen delay or your GP has been called away. Longer consultation times are available, so please ask our receptionist if you require some extra time. Appointments for special examinations, such as for Insurance and Occupational medicals will need to be advised at the time of booking.
If you or a family member requires an interpreter service, we can organize this for you. Please let us know this when you make the appointment.
Home Visits and Telephone Access:
Home visits are available for regular patients whose condition prevents them from attending the surgery. This requires prior agreement of the GP and will need to be discussed with the Nurse.
GPs are unable to take personal phone calls during consultations. Messages for the GPs may be discussed and left with the Nurses during normal surgery hours.
Laboratory and Radiology
Blood tests can be done at any Pathlab throughout the Waikato & Bay of Plenty. Our local Pathlab in Waihi is located at 2 School lane, and they are open 7.30am - 3.30pm Monday - Friday.
Routine blood tests results are usually available within 24-48 hours, however special tests including smears, urine and pathology (skin lesions) may take several days to several weeks. Our policy is to only contact you to advise or discuss any significant results.
You are encouraged to ring our nurses (ext 1) to check or discuss your results, especially if you have any queries. If you would like to be automatically informed of all results we encourage you to sign up to
Manage my Health.
After Hours Care
This practice provides 24 hour care for patients on a roster system shared with GPs from a neighbouring practices. Please ring the normal surgery number, 07 863 2112, and your call will be put through to the on call Triage Nurse service. If the Triage Nurse deems you to need advice or review by a GP they will arrange this.
If you are suddenly unwell or injured and no appointments are available, the URGENT CLINIC is for you!
There are no booked appointment times; patients are seen on a first come first seen basis, with urgent cases given priority.
You will be triaged first by the Nurse, then seen by the GP who is rostered on in the clinic. All our Gps take turns working in the clinic.
We encourage patients to book ahead for regular appointments for normal consultations, and just use the walk in clinic for unexpected urgent needs.
Outside of the clinic hours, if you feel need to be seen urgently by a GP and no appointments are available, you will be asked to speak with the Nurse and assessed.
What Hospital do you refer to?
Although Waihi Family Doctors is a practice located with the Waikato District Health Board (DHB) Catchment, depending on where you live (your home address), you may belong to either the Waikato or BOP DHB.
We have the ability to refer you to all the publicly funded services at both Waikato and Tauranga Hospitals, but can only refer you to the hospital within your DHB area.
- Waikato DHB - Those living in the Waikato - Waihi, and north of Waihi. Many General medical and surgical outpatient services are provided at Thames Hospital, however many specialist or tertiary services (such as cardiothoracic surgery) are provided at Waikato Hospital.
- Bay of Plenty DHB - Those living in the Western BOP - Waihi Beach, Athenree, and Katikati
St John Shuttle can provide transport to Waikato and Thames Hospitals. Some patients are entitled to National travel allowance.
Private referrals to specialists are not restricted to location, and we are able to refer you to the specialist of your choice in Tauranga, Hamilton or anywhere within NZ through our electronic referral system.
